European Council President Antonio Costa has expressed his commitment to the Ukrainian cause on the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, DPA and BTA reported.
“Three years ago, at this very moment, Russia's invasion shattered peace in Ukraine and caused immense suffering to the Ukrainian people“, he wrote early this morning on the social network “Ex“.
In an accompanying video, Costa stressed his solidarity with Ukraine, saying: “Today we are all Ukrainians. The suffering that Russia has caused you since the start of this unprovoked war is cruel and unforgivable.“
He assured that the European Union would continue to support the country: “We have been with you from day one and we will stand with you shoulder to shoulder. We want a just, fair and lasting peace, just like you.“
Košta and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are also expected to arrive in Kiev today to mark the anniversary.
