Moscow sees no possibility of compromise on the issue of the possible deployment of a European peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine. Such a step would mean direct official participation of NATO in the conflict with Russia.
This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to TASS.
"This discussion is being conducted with an openly hostile purpose, they do not hide what they need it for", Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow.
According to the minister, the Russian side "will consider the presence of these troops on Ukrainian territory in the same way as it considered the potential presence of NATO in Ukraine".
"We will categorically not observe such actions.
This will mean, I want to say once again, no longer a supposed hybrid, but already a direct, official, undisguised participation of the NATO countries in the war against the Russian Federation. "This cannot be allowed," Sergei Lavrov threatened.
He noted that regardless of under what flag - national or EU - the deployment of such troops is proposed, "these will still be NATO troops."
Great Britain and France support the deployment of this peacekeeping contingent.
