Erdogan wants "dignified and lasting peace" between Russia and Ukraine

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has told his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin of Turkey's readiness to host or provide any necessary support for negotiations to establish a "dignified and lasting peace" between Russia and Ukraine, the Turkish presidency announced in a post on its profile on the social network Ex, BTA reported.

The two presidents discussed bilateral relations, regional and international issues in a telephone conversation today.

President Erdogan stated that cooperation between Turkey and Russia is of key importance for resolving regional issues, the Turkish presidency also stated in the post.

He said that Turkey is closely following the process that has begun to end the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and assured Turkey's readiness "to provide all kinds of support, including hosting peace talks, in order to ensure a dignified and lasting peace".

Erdogan also expressed the opinion that the well-intentioned steps that will be taken for the safety of commercial shipping in the Black Sea will contribute to the peace process and that Turkey continues to cooperate in ensuring that the Black Sea does not become a zone of conflict.
