Poland signs $2 billion deal with US to support Patriot systems - 1

Poland announced it has signed a $2 billion deal with the US for logistical support of its Patriot air defense systems, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reports.

“This is a fundamental, existential investment“, Polish Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kościńska-Kamiś said at the signing of the agreement. He specified that the funds will be used to supply equipment and logistical support for the American missile launchers that the Polish army uses.

During the ceremony, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk called on US President Donald Trump to reconsider his decision to impose new tariffs on Washington's allies and to prefer cooperation over confrontation.

“Our common European-American interests include a strong United States, a strong EU and a strong NATO. Think about this before you decide to impose tariffs on your closest allies. Cooperation is always preferable to confrontation“, Tusk wrote on the social network “Ex“.

He stressed that the United States has “reliable friends and allies – from Portugal to Poland, from Denmark to Greece“.

Trump is expected to announce new tariffs against some American allies within two days.

Poland plans to allocate nearly 5% of its gross domestic product (GDP) to defense this year. A significant part of military orders are directed to companies from the United States and South Korea.

In August 2024 Warsaw has signed a €1.13 billion deal to acquire 48 Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems, which will be delivered to the Polish army between 2027 and 2029.
