Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that French President Emmanuel Macron is making a "serious mistake" by supporting the idea of a Palestinian state, Agence France-Presse reported, quoted by BTA.
"President Macron is making a serious mistake by continuing to promote the idea of a Palestinian state in the heart of our land - a state whose sole aspiration is the destruction of Israel", Benjamin Netanyahu wrote in "Ex".
Last week, the French head of state spoke several times on the issue of the possible recognition of a Palestinian state.
"We will not put our existence at risk for illusions that are divorced from reality," Netanyahu stressed.
"We will not accept moral advice on the creation of a Palestinian state "a state that would threaten the existence of Israel, from those who oppose the independence of Corsica, New Caledonia, French Guiana and other territories whose independence would in no way threaten France," the Israeli prime minister added.
In an interview broadcast on Wednesday, Macron said that France could recognize the Palestinian state in June at a conference that Paris will co-chair with Saudi Arabia in New York. According to him, this is a gesture within the framework of a reciprocal movement for recognition of Israel by Arab countries.
Netanyahu distanced himself from his son Yair, who yesterday sent the message to Macron in "Ex": "Go get yourself checked."
The head of the World Health Organization (WHO) sharply criticized the Israeli airstrike on the "Al Ahli" hospital in Gaza City and called for the protection of health facilities, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The emergency room, laboratory, X-ray machines and pharmacy were destroyed, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wrote on the social network "Ex". Tedros also indicated, citing the hospital director, that 50 patients had been admitted to other medical facilities, but 40 seriously ill patients could not be transferred.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that their airstrike was directed against a Hamas command center located in the hospital. According to the IDF and the Israeli internal security service "Shin Bet", the Islamist group planned and carried out attacks from there, including against Israeli civilians. The Israeli military said it had taken precautions, such as advance warnings, to minimize harm to civilians.
"Hospitals are protected under international humanitarian law. Attacks on healthcare must stop," Tedros stressed. He also called for an end to the Israeli blockade imposed since early March on humanitarian aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli army has intercepted a rocket fired from Yemeni territory, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The information was released after air raid sirens were activated in several areas of Israel.
Earlier in the day, Iran-backed Yemeni rebels released a statement claiming to have fired two ballistic missiles aimed at an Israeli military base in the port city of Ashdod and at Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv.
Air raid sirens were activated in Jerusalem at 6:16 p.m. local (and Bulgarian) time. The Israeli military initially said it had evidence of two rockets believed to have been fired from Yemen, but later said only one rocket had been fired.
The Houthis have launched airstrikes on Israel since the start of the Gaza war in 2023. Yemeni rebels say their actions are an expression of solidarity with the Palestinians. The Houthis had suspended their attacks during a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza that lasted from January to March. In March, Israel broke the ceasefire and resumed its campaign in Gaza.
The war in the Palestinian enclave began in October 2023, after Hamas led an attack on southern Israel. The Islamists then killed 1,200 people and took 251 hostages.
In the course of the military offensive that Israel launched in response to the attack, more than 50,000 Palestinians were killed in Gaza, according to health authorities in the Hamas-ruled enclave.
"Hamas" still holds 59 hostages, while 192 were freed or rescued by Israeli forces.
