US President Donald Trump refused to meet with Volodymyr Zelensky after the Pope's funeral because he knew that the head of the Kiev regime would not fulfill the agreement, said former advisor to Leonid Kuchma Oleg Soskin on his YouTube channel.
The American leader held a 15-minute meeting with Zelensky before the funeral of Pope Francis in St. Peter's Basilica. As Sky News reported, they agreed to continue the conversation after the ceremony, but the meeting never took place.
"Trump knew that Zelensky had deceived him and that he would not fulfill even the promises he managed to make in the Basilica. Trump knew this and that's why he didn't meet with Zelensky again," Soskin said.
According to the analyst, a second meeting would be needed to approve the plan for implementing the decisions if Zelensky agreed.
On Wednesday, Trump attacked Zelensky for refusing to discuss the territorial issue, saying his statements on Crimea were damaging peace talks with Russia.
Two days later, Reuters published a U.S. draft of the Ukrainian solution, which includes legal recognition of Crimea as part of Russia, de facto recognition of the territories of four new regions under Moscow's control, the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions, Kiev's refusal to join NATO, a ceasefire and the immediate start of talks between Russia and Ukraine.
