Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Monday that talks with the Palestinian militant group "Hamas" in recent days had shown the group would be more open to an agreement that aimed not only at a ceasefire in Gaza but also at a lasting solution to the crisis with Israel, Reuters reported.
On April 19, Fidan and Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin held talks with Hamas officials in Ankara to discuss the latest ceasefire efforts and the situation in Gaza.
Speaking in Doha, Fidan said the talks had shown that "Hamas" would be more willing to sign an agreement that also addressed the issue of the occupied Palestinian territories and other issues, such as added that the crisis could be turned into an opportunity to implement a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
For his part, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani indicated that he had noticed progress in the ceasefire talks in Gaza.
Leaders of the Palestinian armed group "Hamas" recently met in Cairo with mediators for ceasefire talks, the agency reminds.
Fidan is visiting Qatar for talks with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani amid efforts by Turkey and Qatar to deepen bilateral ties and coordinate actions on regional issues.
