The son of US President Donald Trump – Donald Trump Jr., arrived in Sofia on Sunday to participate in the Trump Business Vision 2025 business forum, organized by the crypto company Nexo.
Before the event, Trump Jr. met with GERB leader Boyko Borisov, confirmed the press center of the Party for Free Europe. Earlier, Nexo said that Trump Jr. has not met and will not meet with politicians, and that only business representatives will participate in the event.
However, two independent sources of Free Europe saw Borisov leaving the building where the forum is being held. GERB said that for the time being they cannot provide details about the conversation and the topics discussed between the GERB leader and Trump's son.
The news comes against the backdrop of Borisov's claims that the leader of “DPS - New Beginning“ Delyan Peevski, who was sanctioned for corruption, could be removed from the American “Magnitsky“ sanctions list.
Trump Jr. refused to speak to the media.
The media initially received an invitation to cover the Nexo event in Sofia. Reporters from RFE/RL went to the scene, but learned that the business forum would be held behind closed doors, and Trump Jr. would not speak to the media, as the program provided by Nexo had previously stated.
According to bTV, which filmed Trump Jr.'s plane landing at Sofia airport, he refused to get off the plane until the cameramen and journalists had left the runway.
The closed event, which begins at 6 p.m., will feature speeches by Trump Jr., Israeli Minister of Science and Technology Gila Gamliel, and Nexo co-owner Antoni Trenchev. There will be a question-and-answer session with business representatives, as well as a short musical program. Representatives of political forces will not be present, the company said.
