Allegations of Russian interference in the elections in Romania are madness and a lie, said the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on the air of the RT television channel.
According to her, similar statements by representatives of some political circles in Romania once again confirm that the situation with the elections in Romania is a "joke".
On November 24, 2024, the first round of presidential elections in Romania was held, in which candidate Calin Georgescu received the most votes. On December 6, the country's Constitutional Court annulled the entire election process and ordered new elections. The decision was made after Romanian intelligence services declassified documents alleging that Georgescu had illegally financed his election campaign, that there had been hacker attacks on the digital infrastructure used in the electoral process, and that Russia had carried out some “hybrid actions“ against the republic.
New presidential elections were then scheduled to take place this Sunday, May 4.
