The war in Ukraine will not end in the near future. This was stated by US Vice President JD Vance in an interview with Fox News, News.bg reports.
According to him, the US administration is faced with the question of how to help Russia and Ukraine find a way to end the conflict, which has been going on for more than three years. He stressed that the responsibility for an agreement lies with both sides.
„Yes, the Ukrainians are angry because they were attacked. But are we going to continue to lose thousands and thousands of soldiers for a few square kilometers of territory, regardless of which side?“, Vance asked.
US President Donald Trump noted that Ukraine could accept Russian control over Crimea as part of a possible peace agreement. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stated that Kiev will not recognize the annexation of the peninsula.
In late April, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed that progress in peace talks was needed. Otherwise, he said, the United States could end its mediating role between Kiev and Moscow.
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a temporary three-day ceasefire from May 8, coinciding with the commemorations of the end of World War II. On the Ukrainian side, Foreign Minister Andriy Sibikha called for an immediate 30-day cessation of hostilities.
