Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliev held talks in Seoul on the possible participation of South Korean companies in an international consortium to build nuclear power plants. This was announced by the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

„The head of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan talked with representatives of Korean companies about their possible participation in the international consortium, the creation of which is currently being studied in Kazakhstan as one of the possible models for the implementation of a project to build a nuclear power plant power plant”, the message says. The head of the department indicated that “the final decision on this issue will be made in 2025”, the press service notes.

After voting in a referendum on October 6, after which Kazakhs approved the construction of the first nuclear power plant in the country, the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokayev indicated that an international consortium should work in the country, “which will consist from global companies with the most advanced technologies."

Earlier, the Kazakh authorities considered several possible suppliers of nuclear technology - the Chinese company CNNC, the South Korean KHNP, Rosatom and the French EDF.

The nuclear power plant is planned to be built in the village of Ulken, Zhambil district, Alma-Ata region.
