The main indexes of the New York Stock Exchange showed strong growth after US President Donald Trump announced a 90-day suspension of tariffs on a number of countries, trading data showed.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose from 37,957.51 points to 39,579.55 points a few minutes after the US leader's announcement. The S&P 500 gained 223.62 points, reaching 5,261.09 points. The Nasdaq electronic exchange index rose by 885.02 points (3.73%) to 16,464.79 points. Since the start of the trading session, the indices have risen by 5.14%, 5.59% and 7.84%, respectively.
Earlier, Trump announced on Truth Social that he was suspending additional import duties imposed on a reciprocal basis for 90 days; the tariff rate for a number of countries during that time will be 10%. At the same time, the American leader also announced an increase in import duties on China to 125%. Both decisions take effect immediately.
