Romania can give gas to Moldova this winter - 1

Romania can share its gas reserves with Moldova if the need arises in the winter. This was said by Romanian Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja in an interview with Moldova 1 TV channel.

„Romania has its own reserves that can be used. We are confident that this volume will last for a long time, even during the winter months. In addition to current stocks, we are ready to ship volumes that are already in stock, as well as those that will be produced during the winter”, noted Burduja.

Earlier, the head of the Moldovan company Energocom, Vladimir Banzar, said that about 50 million cubic meters of gas purchased from Moldova are stored in Romania. According to him, such reservations were made due to the “uncertainty of the situation in Ukraine”. The State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of Moldova Constantin Borosan assured that Moldova has gas reserves of about 100 million cubic meters, which is enough to supply the republic for about 20 days. Previously, the Moldovan government decided that gas reserves would be 15% of annual consumption, which is approximately 150 million cubic meters. m. Almost a third of this volume - 47 million cubic meters. m - stored in case of emergency, which should be enough for at least 10 days.

Since October 2022, Gazprom, which was previously the sole supplier of gas to the republic, has reduced its daily supply volume by 30% due to problems with transit through the territory of Ukraine. In this situation, Moldova switched to buying fuel from European suppliers, and Russian gas is sent to unrecognized Transnistria. The Moldovan state power plant is located there, which supplies Moldova with electricity.
