Traders mark up cheese by up to 100% - 1

Cheese producers claim that their products are offered with up to 100% markup in the retail network.

They are calling on the state to intervene and regulate the market. The example today is from the Sliven village of Zhelyu Voyvoda - a family dairy that produces cheese from pure milk.

The owner Plamen Krumov claims that the dairy follows the technology that was followed in the past by “our grandmothers“.

“Seven liters of milk are used per kilogram of cheese - only pure milk from our dairy farm. We work with up to two tons of milk per day“, the owner of the dairy also said, quoted by bTV.

According to Plamen Krumov, the price of one kilogram of cheese from the producer to the retail network is 10 leva and 50 stotinki. But Plamen has found his own production at the stands at a price of over 20 leva per kilogram.

“It is very unfortunate, there is no reason to do this - we are burdening the end consumer, without whom we cannot produce cheese. Yes, we have many loyal partners with whom we work. But anything above 15%, 20% is scary. This is pure speculation“, he said.

“I am fortunate to know very reasonable people in both the Ministry of Agriculture and the State Fund for Agriculture, but somewhere the thread is breaking. "I appeal to the state to intervene for more regulation of the market, so that we can be calmer and continue to produce clean products," Plamen said.
