British police have arrested Dan Norris, a member of the ruling Labour Party, on suspicion of committing sexual offences against minors. According to The Sun newspaper, the offences took place around 20 years ago.
“In December 2024, another police force referred us to a case of alleged past sexual offences against girls“, Avon and Somerset Police said. “The majority of these are believed to have occurred in the 2000s, but we are also investigating allegations of rape dating back to the 2020s.“
The Labour Party Secretariat said Norris had been suspended from his duties immediately after his arrest on Friday became known.
Norris, 65, was first elected to the UK House of Commons in 1997 and remained an MP until 2010. In 2009-2010, he was the Environment Secretary in Gordon Brown's government (2007-2010). Norris was re-elected to parliament in July 2024. Since 2021, he has led the West of England Local Government Association.
