The German government does not plan to resume Russian gas supplies to Germany, the official representative of the German cabinet of ministers, Steffen Hebestreit, told journalists.
"We have no gas dependence on Russia and there are no plans to become dependent on Russia again or to establish Russian gas supplies to Germany," he assured. At the same time, the representative of the German government reiterated that the "Nord Stream 2" gas pipeline is not certified.
On March 4, the Bild newspaper, citing its sources, reported that the German cabinet is studying options to prevent the commissioning of the "Nord Stream 2" gas pipeline as a result of possible agreements between Russia and the United States.
On March 2, Bild reported that secret negotiations have been underway in Switzerland for several weeks about whether Russian gas could once again flow to Germany. According to the publication, the focus is on the "Nord Stream 2" gas pipeline. The newspaper claims that US President's representative Richard Grenell has made several unofficial trips to Switzerland to discuss the deal. There, in Steinhausen in the canton of Zug, is the headquarters of the operator of the "Nord Stream 2" gas pipeline. Nord Stream 2 AG. As Bild pointed out, we are talking about a "gas deal" between the United States and the Russian Federation.
The main idea is for the two powers to conclude a supply contract in which the United States acts as an intermediary and transports Russian gas through the "Nord Stream 2" gas pipeline to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in northern Germany, the publication notes. In this way, the Americans will regulate the German gas tap and at the same time profit from it, the newspaper believes. At the same time, the US government itself, as Bild emphasizes, will not participate. American financial investors wanted to participate in the gas deal, the newspaper concludes.
Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov refused to comment on the publication by the newspaper "Bild" that secret negotiations are underway in Switzerland to resume the "Nord Stream 2" gas pipeline. At the same time, he pointed out that US representatives have already denied this information.
