The BSP will enter into negotiations to form a cabinet with GERB-SDF. This was stated by the chairman of "BSP - United Left" Atanas Zafirov at a briefing on Sunday. GERB has sent a letter for a meeting to be held between December 16 and 20. The BSP said that they would negotiate with all parliamentary groups, with the exception of "DPS-New Beginning", since this formation wants early elections.
The left has also chosen a contact group for talks with political parties, which will seek a majority to form a regular cabinet. It includes the leadership of the parliamentary group, the co-chairs and the deputies. As a basis for talks, Zafirov highlighted the protection of the welfare state through a review of the tax system, the adoption of a tax-free minimum and steps for financial decentralization of the regions. “I can also add the preservation of the investment program of Bulgarian municipalities”, he said.
Among the priorities that the left will discuss with the other parties is the protection of hospitals and pharmacies in remote areas. The BSP will ask that state and municipal medical institutions not be registered as commercial companies. Zafirov defined this as “our old battle”.
The BSP once again stated that they want incentives for childbirth and support for motherhood.
“Quick action by the state is also needed to guarantee access to drinking water, as well as stabilize the development of the Bulgarian energy sector by resuming the construction of the “Belene” NPP, said Zafirov.
He emphasized that the priorities also include the topics of terminating the procedure for electing a prosecutor general, regulators and a new Supreme Judicial Council.
The direct election of the BSP leader will be held on February 23, the chairman of “BSP - United Left” also said. “We elected a Central Election Commission according to our rules. Gergana Aleksova is the chairman. The commission has begun its work on the procedures for the direct election," added Atanas Zafirov.
