Over 200,000 Bulgarians have suffered from the water crisis - 1

A number of regions in Bulgaria are suffering from water shortages – 51 municipalities in our country have disrupted water supply. There are 11 cities and over 160 villages in which there is either no water or it is of poor quality. The affected consumers are over 200 thousand, reports bTV.

This is according to the latest data from “Bulgarian Water and Sanitation Holding“.

The most serious problem with water is in the districts of Pleven, Lovech, Targovishte and Plovdiv.

Pleven – the eighth most populous district in our country, is at the top of the statistics. There are almost 90,000 residents with disrupted water supply.

The water shortage in the Pleven region has caused two major protests in recent days. Thousands have been affected.

In 30 years, Pleven has twice missed the opportunity to apply for a new water cycle. Over 70% of the already limited water quantities are lost through the pipes.

Over 60,000 people in the Lovech region are without water. In the Targovishte region, over 14,000 consumers are also in a similar situation. There are also problems with water supply in the Plovdiv region. There, 11,000 people are affected, according to data from water supply companies.

Our country is at the top of the European Union (EU) in terms of water losses.

Within days, the experts will write down the recommendations, which they will send to the responsible institutions and to the deputies in the temporary parliamentary committee on water scarcity.
