Kalfin: GERB will have to make additional concessions, including supporting what the PP wants - 1

The political crisis in Bulgaria is not rooted in any external factors, it is entirely a product of our internal politics or rather the inability of political parties to deal with the issue of power – to win elections, form a coalition, create a stable government and assume political responsibility. The reasons are entirely internal and they are related to the absolute lack of capacity in the current political forces to achieve the result. This was said by former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivaylo Kalfin in the program – Bulgaria, Europe and the World in Focus“ on Radio “Focus“.

According to him, the political process is moving slowly – since the elections, the deputies have not been able to do much. According to Kalfin, without creating a sufficiently stable political perspective for the state, which means having a government, we cannot expect a well-functioning parliament. "The resolution of the political crisis will occur when there is an agreement to create a government supported by a clear majority and with a clear coalition basis," he believes.

The possibility of forming a cabinet includes the participation of both large coalitions GERB-SDF and PP-DB, with both PP and DB stating at this stage that they would not participate in a cabinet without each other. This means that GERB will have to make additional concessions, including supporting what the PP wants, which is to distinguish Delyan Peevski's influence in politics, Ivaylo Kalfin also believes. According to him, however, these parties are not enough to form a majority and the participation of other parties will be needed.

"It is difficult for me to imagine how the BSP will participate in such a coalition. ITN is a small parliamentary group and it is also not enough. The efforts are good. It is good that they are actually ready for some compromises. The point is to lead to some clear agreement, not things that are kept secret. There are efforts, but let's see how far these efforts will go,“ he added.
