It was important with my first visit as a European Commissioner to show support for the Bulgarian government, that the EC is open and ready to work with Bulgaria. This was stated by the Bulgarian Commissioner for Startups and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva in the program “From the Day” on BNT, quoted by novini.bg.
“I want to congratulate them for their political courage and responsibility. Four years of political instability is an awfully long time. I wish the politicians success. Europe and European citizens need each member state to be stable”, she stressed.
“Brussels received the “Zhelyazkov” cabinet quite positively. The fact that many of the ministers are familiar was also received positively. Today I spoke with many politicians in Bulgaria. There are also contradictions on the topics in the European political families and in the parliament, and this is absolutely normal. It is more important to have determination to uphold the principles of the EU and the interests of Bulgaria. I was confident that our country's goal for the eurozone has not changed. I am calm that our country's European path is not in danger”, said Zaharieva.
“I want to call for work. There are so many important tasks ahead of Bulgaria, especially under the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). The election campaign is over and Bulgarian citizens are expecting decisions”,”, our European Commissioner emphasized.
“Political instability is the reason for the non-absorption of EU funds under the PPA. Bulgaria can still take the money under the Recovery Plan, as we received understanding and a deferral, but work needs to be done. These are a lot of funds that Bulgarian citizens will lose. The EC is ready to assist us. We still have 4 months left. I wish courage, strong nerves and political wisdom to the cabinet”, Ekaterina Zaharieva also said.
