„We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” confirmed their decision to submit a vote of no confidence in the "Zhelyazkov" cabinet if the new coalition does not request a convergent report on Bulgaria's admission to the eurozone. According to the formation, some of the new ruling party members are trying to stop this process, Nova TV reported.
Only 10 days after the swearing-in of the „Zhelyazkov” cabinet, the first requests for a vote of no confidence are already being heard. The reason is the delay in requesting the extraordinary report on our country's entry into the eurozone. From „We Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria” believe that there is an agreement in the ruling majority because of the position of the BSP and “There is such a people” that there should be no rush. Both Finance Minister Tamenuzhka Petkova and GERB have already assured that this step will be taken immediately after the submission of the 2025 budget.
Their partners from the ITN are not so categorical, stating that the request for a report on the eurozone will happen when our country is completely ready.
“The vote of no confidence is part of the opposition's tools, as are protests, for example. In this regard, we will use all the opposition's tools to be able to influence the ruling party and for Bulgaria to enter the eurozone, as well as to request a convergence report as quickly as possible. You saw that they have a huge change in their position within just two days. First they said that we will not enter the eurozone, then on Friday they already stated that they are ready to submit a request for a convergence report on February 18,”, said Ivaylo Mirchev from PP-DB.
According to Toshko Yordanov from ITN, “if the country meets the requirements, fine, we are not against the eurozone. If we do not meet the requirements, we simply do not”.
“It is best to ask those who come to the topic a simple question: if the country submits a report on entering the eurozone without meeting the conditions and the European partners say “no”, because they, unlike us, do not turn a blind eye to adjusting data, what will be the consequences? They will postpone us for at least two years,” added Yordanov.
