No one anywhere and in any way has discussed the issue of sending military contingents to Ukraine to participate in hostilities between Russia and Ukraine. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Georg Georgiev in the National Assembly, BTA reports. He and Defense Minister Atanas Zapryanov are participating in a parliamentary hearing on a "questionnaire" prepared by the United States on topics related to Bulgaria's readiness to participate in a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine.
An issue in the general debate on security guarantees for Ukraine after the end of the war is the topic of possible peacekeeping forces as part of a future peace agreement, the minister pointed out. We strongly urge that any speculation on this topic be stopped, because it only instills fear in society, and there should be no such thing, because Bulgarian foreign and defense policies have never been unreasonable in this regard, Georgiev said.
The United States has asked its European allies to say what they would need from Washington to participate in security agreements in Ukraine and to outline how they see lasting guarantees, according to a document seen by Reuters.
