Gutsanov: By June, changes to the Labor Code will be developed, guaranteeing adequate minimum wages - 1

By June, the Ministry of Social Affairs will develop changes to the Labor Code, with which the European directive on adequate minimum wages will be transposed in our country. There is still no new formula by which the minimum wage will be determined.

The topic continues to be discussed in working groups with the participation of business and unions. This is clear from a written response by Social Affairs Minister Borislav Gutsanov to a question from GERB SDS MP Denitsa Sacheva, BNR reports. The deadline for Bulgaria to implement the requirements of the European directive expired on November 15 last year.

From Minister Gutsanov's response, it is clear that the ministry continues talks with social partners regarding the new mechanism for determining the minimum wage, but serious differences remain in the positions of business and trade unions.

The department is understanding the situation and is making efforts to find a balanced solution.

The minister declared that there is already a clear concept of what actions to take to implement the European directive.

The intention is to write down in the Labor Code the criteria on the basis of which the minimum wage will be determined, as well as the reference value for assessing its adequacy.

At the same time, the government will also adopt an ordinance that will regulate the order, manner and procedure for its determination, while ensuring the participation of the social partners in the process.

The same regulation will also specify a specific formula and how the assessment of the adequacy of the minimum wage will be carried out.
