The initiative for my conversation with Zelensky came from him. This was stated by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov from Brussels, where he will participate in the meeting of the European Council.
„Two very important issues will be discussed at this special council. The first is about the stability of Ukraine and the achievement of a lasting and just peace, based on several principles. Namely, that nothing related to peace in Ukraine can be resolved without the participation of Kiev; negotiations on the security of Europe must be by Europe and for Europe. And last but not least - it is important what kind of peace we strive for, because when the power of law opposes the right of force - Europe must be ready”, the Prime Minister emphasized.
According to him, the second main topic that the EU leaders will discuss at the council is the EU's defense capability. “We will discuss the contribution of the member states in this direction. We have a strong military industry that we must develop, modernize and contribute to common European security”, Zhelyazkov emphasized. He added that he would propose that the way for this financing would be to use unspent funds under the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.
The Prime Minister was categorical that military aid to Ukraine “will not be discussed in detail at the moment”. “Everything that Bulgaria has undertaken as a commitment with the acts of parliament – will be implemented”, said Zhelyazkov.
"It is important that Bulgaria is a participant in all formats that guarantee the security of the European Union", he stressed.
