PP and DB with sharp positions after the statement of the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court Pavlina Panova - 1

After the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court Pavlina Panova announced that the activities of the Constitutional Court to conclude the case challenging the legality of the elections were being hindered, political reactions were not long in coming, FOCUS reported.

"We continue the change“ came out with a position regarding the documents requested by the SGP from "Information Service".

Peevski's Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has placed itself above the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria in order to cover up the theft and buying of the last elections.

These actions by the prosecutor's office are another attempt to interfere in the political process, which undermines trust in democratic institutions.

It is unacceptable for the activities of the Constitutional Court to be made dependent on the actions or inactions of other state bodies. We support them in their efforts to return the law to where it belongs.

The request for election materials from the prosecutor's office is only aimed at delaying the announcement of the results of the recount of the election results by "Information Service" in 2204 sections in the country.

"We continue the change" categorically condemns such actions and calls for compliance with the principles of the rule of law, transparency and independence of institutions.

In this crisis situation, it is imperative that the President of the Republic of Bulgaria immediately convene the National Security Advisory Council to discuss the severe institutional crisis and take urgent measures to protect democracy and the rule of law.

Democracy requires our active support!

We call on the Constitutional Court to fulfill its powers under the Constitution of the Republic of Bulgaria. This is stated in an official position of "Democratic Bulgaria", sent to the media.

"No institution, including the Prosecutor's Office, can prevent this. The legal rights and interests of citizens must be protected by the Constitutional Court, without it bending under any pressure. There is no obstacle for the CEC and “Information Service" AD to fulfill the tasks set by the Constitutional Court.

Once again, we insist that the Constitutional Court publish all expert opinions on the case of the appeal of the parliamentary elections - without exception.

Only in this way will the Constitutional Court itself protect itself from the rude interventions of the prosecutor's office and fulfill its duty before the law.

Only in this way will the right of citizens to free and fair elections be protected.

Dear constitutional judges, you have all the authority to fulfill your duties and not allow Peevski's prosecutor's office to undermine the last traces of trust in Bulgarian institutions.

Your duty is to protect the freedom of citizens and the constitutional foundations of the democratic legal order in our republic!“, the letter specifies, which comes after it became clear at an extraordinary session of the CEC this evening that "Information Service" cannot hand over the database with the re-entered data that was expected today. The reason stated in their letter from "Information Service" is that they have handed over all documents and materials to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office.

"Peevski's Sofia City Prosecutor's Office placed itself above the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria in order to cover up the theft and buying of the last elections. There is Peevski - there is no Bulgaria. There is Bulgaria - there is no Peevski. In politics”. This is what Asen Vassilev wrote on Facebook.

This evening, at an extraordinary meeting of the CEC, it became clear that "Information Service" cannot hand over the database with the re-entered data that was expected today. The reason stated in their letter from “Information Service” is that they have handed over all documents and materials to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office. Therefore, they cannot carry out the actions assigned by the Commission. However, by their decision, the members of the CEC obliged them with a deadline of tomorrow.

Later, the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court Pavlina Panova issued an extraordinary address. She announced that the activities of the Constitutional Court to conclude the case challenging the legality of the elections were being hindered. According to her, it is unacceptable for the activities of the Constitutional Court to be made dependent on the actions or inactions of other state bodies.

When asked for comment after the statement of the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office did not answer our questions. It is expected that there will be information from there tomorrow.
