The Central Election Commission (CEC) announced at its extraordinary session today the names of two new MPs who will take seats in the 51st National Assembly. Ivan Danailov Ivanov from the MECH party and Stanislav Dimitrov Anastasov from "DPS - New Beginning" were announced as elected MPs.
As it became clear from the information provided by the CEC, Ivan Ivanov enters the parliament in place of Iliyan Petrov Iliev, who earlier today notified that he did not wish to take a seat as an MP and, accordingly, would not take the oath as an MP.
The second new MP - Stanislav Anastasov, takes the place of Taner Emin from the "DPS - New Beginning" parliamentary group, whose credentials were terminated early at his personal request. The interesting thing about this case is that Anastasov was among the 16 MPs declared by the Constitutional Court yesterday to be illegally elected.
Yesterday's decision by the Constitutional Court, which declared the elections of 16 MPs illegal, led to a redistribution of mandates in parliament. After the redistribution adopted by the CEC, the "Majesty" party will have 10 deputies in the 51st National Assembly.
Today's plenary session was also marked by the swearing-in of four new MPs. These are Ivaylo Kostadinov and Ivan Klisurski from the "There is Such a People" parliamentary group (ITN), Samuil Slavov from MECH and Yavor Haitov from APS.
The changes in the composition of the National Assembly come at a time of political instability and after a number of legal disputes regarding the legality of the election of some deputies, which poses additional challenges to the functioning of the legislative body.
