The big question is, if there really is a problem with pricing and an increased burden on consumers, what solutions does the state offer. This was said in the program "Face to Face" on BTV by the former chairman of the Consumer Protection Commission, Dimitar Margaritov, in connection with the measures against high food prices.
We should not solve this type of crisis with measures that would have a short-term effect, such as a ceiling on price increases. We always start with measures to calm society, and in the end we see no result. If we are talking about a long-term and lasting solution, and under the current legislation, if the control bodies do their job, we will arrive at a more normal and lasting solution to calm the market, said Margaritov.
When institutions work in sync, they can prevent a number of unfair practices, he added.
Dimitar Margaritov also commented on the proposal in the post offices to organize a state-owned chain of grocery stores.
For something like this to happen, there must be a political majority that will adopt the necessary acts. If this initiative is unsuccessful and the state suffers losses, the majority that adopted the decision will bear responsibility. But for consumers, this could be another opportunity where to shop, if it is profitable for them, the former chairman of the Consumers' Confederation pointed out.
On the occasion of his nomination for National Ombudsman, Margaritov said: "My motivation is related to my confidence that I can advocate for the rights of citizens in a reasonable and constructive way. I think this institution deserves this motivation. I also have seven years of experience as the head of a regulatory state body. Let the best one receive support in the plenary hall".
The procedure for selecting an ombudsman, which is provided for by a decision of the National Assembly, provides for opportunities to attract support. I have not sought support from political parties.
