Deyan Nikolov: There are over 100 illegal dumps in the capital and this is business - 1

There is a risk of losing about 60 million leva under the Municipal Budget for the construction and renovation of kindergartens in Sofia. Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev denies this.

"There is such a risk because the capital administration works quite slowly and it may turn out that funds will have to be returned. What is worrying is that over the last year and a half there has been a general understanding that the mayor's administration is working sluggishly. Sofia residents expected more dynamics," said municipal councilor from "Vazrazhdane" Deyan Nikolov in the program "Denyat ON AIR".

"Everything depends on the Municipal Council, the mayor is a key figure, he bears the responsibility. And the deputy mayor for construction, who should have a major role," noted Ganiela Angelova's guest.

Nikolov reported that there are over 100 illegal landfills in Sofia and "this is a business", and according to him, it is about corruption.

"This business has been going on for a long time. Most likely, the Sofia Inspectorate has a hand in it. The problem is big. Usually, the companies we reach are either subcontractors or large companies that deal with large infrastructure projects in Sofia. Some of the small companies are forced to do things poorly because there is not enough money," he explained to Bulgaria ON AIR. Nikolov is of the opinion that if GERB still has influence in the middle levels of the Sofia Municipal Council, they could sabotage the projects in order to cause Mayor Vasil Terziev to fail.

"Don't think that everyone wants the best for Sofia. Politics is not like that, trading in influence is the main activity in the Sofia Municipal Council", the municipal councilor emphasized. "All municipal enterprises and companies are currently the terrain of a very serious political clash. The mayor is not acting with a strong enough hand and this will play a bad joke on him. After so many years of GERB rule, a revision should have been made", Nikolov is categorical. He pointed out that there is a need for investments so that we can avoid a garbage crisis in the capital in the next two years. According to him, there is currently no such risk.

Nikolov also said that the worst-case scenario is for the state to cover the obligations of "Toplofikatsiya-Sofia", after which a private person would be given the responsibility to manage the company. Then there would be pressure on KEVR to raise the price for end users.
