„The truck driver was immediately arrested. The next day, he was brought to criminal responsibility for a crime committed by a supervising prosecutor from the Pleven District Prosecutor's Office. He was detained for up to 72 hours, but a request was made for detention in custody. The District Court is yet to rule on the detention order.“
This was explained by the prosecutor's office in Pleven regarding the serious accident between the villages of Telish and Radomirtsi, in which a heavy truck swept away a car on Monday, killing a 12-year-old girl and seriously injuring her grandfather, who is in danger of death.
A team has visited the scene of the accident, an inspection has been carried out, and the situation has been established. The driver of the tractor-trailer was tested for alcohol and drugs, the samples were negative, he was at the scene, the Pleven District Prosecutor's Office also indicated.
There are already witnesses questioned, a re-examination is to be carried out.
Earlier today, the father of the deceased 12-year-old girl, Nikolay Popov, stated that the driver of the truck that caused the accident did not get out of the cab to help and even “had a cup of coffee“.
The prosecutor's office refused to comment on the father's words, but clarified that the driver of the heavy truck is Bulgarian. It turns out that in the past he was convicted, but was rehabilitated.
“According to the data we have, the driver of the truck was convicted of driving a motor vehicle without a driving license and after drinking alcohol. This happened years ago and he has been rehabilitated for these acts“, the prosecutor's office explained.
Hours ago, due to the tragic incident near Telish, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov ordered an inspection of the RIA and the removal of the entire management of the Regional Road Administration in Pleven until the results are clarified.
