After on Tuesday, Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev ordered the suspension of the acceptance of all hospital waste at the garbage processing plant due to a truck with biological waste being detected, Minister of Health Silvi Kirilov commented on the topic again. He called the problem "characteristic" and that it cannot be solved through the media.
The minister was categorical that hospital waste does have an addressee - a name, a clinic, a hospital. This way it can be identified specifically, and even from which structure it is, said Kirilov.
"We will form a commission and review the regulatory framework. Whether the problem is there, we will see" said Minister Kirilov. He recalled that the RHI has conducted 960 inspections since the beginning of the year and estimated that this is 10 per day. No omissions have been found. Kirilov added that about 370 tons of such waste are generated per month.
Minister Kirilov also emphasized that hospital waste is many times more dangerous for medical staff, who are trained to protect themselves, patients and their loved ones from the student bench. "Hospital staff have developed reflexes and it is almost impossible for the mistake to be theirs," added the Minister of Health.
