Bulgaria's contract with the Turkish gas company “Botas“ is back on the agenda in parliament.
“We have concluded a 13-year contract, with which we reserve capacity for gas supplies through the terminals in Turkey and use of their gas transmission system. We don't use this contract because there are no such supplies. That is, every day we pay a little more than 1 million for something we don't use“, said Delyan Dobrev from GERB.
“We don't use it because cheap Russian gas is entering Bulgaria from Greece. The Greeks, under their contract, buy gas and sell it back to Bulgaria“, he explained.
“We cannot stop them because the gas market in our country has been liberalized. The share of “Bulgargaz“ from nearly 100% in the last GERB cabinet, thanks to the PP, whose official sponsor is the main competitor of “Bulgargaz“, has decreased to about 50%“, Delyan Dobrev also pointed out.
In his words, “Bulgargaz“ is a bankrupt company and must declare bankruptcy.
Our march towards the eurozone
“I am optimistic and I hope that by July we will complete the entire procedure, not only with the convergence report, but also with all the decisions that the European institutions must make. One of the last is the European Parliament and to have a fixed date of January 1, 2026. The time has come for Europe to make such a political decision“, Dobrev commented.
According to him, Bulgaria meets the formal criteria, but the accession of each country to the eurozone has always been a political act.
“We have met the criteria many times before. In the last three “Borisov“ cabinets, we very often met the criteria for the eurozone, but they did not accept us because the political moment was not right. Now I think it is the right time, because Europe must show that it is strong and expanding“, Dobrev said.
