In Lovech, in the church "Holy Trinity", the Metropolitan of Lovech Gabriel will lead the services for Good Friday.
In the Orthodox churches, a liturgy is celebrated in the morning for the taking out of the shroud, and in the evening the ode of Christ, the burial of Jesus, explained Metropolitan Gabriel, quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio.
"On Friday, the Lord was crucified on the cross. At 3 o'clock he was taken down, already deceased. And then Joseph of Matthew and Saint Nicodemus prepared him for burial by anointing him with a special mixture of aloe and myrrh, then wrapped him in a clean shroud and buried him in a tomb carved into the rock, which Saint Joseph had prepared for himself in his garden, "the metropolitan explained.
That is why on Good Friday the holy shroud, in which the body of Jesus Christ was wrapped, is brought out to the churches.
"During the day, the laity worship, i.e., as it were, they sympathize with the Lord in this way by kissing the shroud, remembering his sufferings, which he endured for our sake. On Friday evening, in front of this shroud, we respectively serve the funeral, the mourning of Christ," Metropolitan Gabriel also said.
