In ten Veliko Tarnovo villages, drinking water does not meet sanitary standards. 18 settlements in the region are on water treatment.
Approximately one third of the population of Veliko Tarnovo region drinks water extracted from underground water sources, which are often contaminated with nitrates, according to the Regional Health Inspectorate, quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio.
The latest inspections by health authorities have established that due to nitrates, the water is unfit for drinking in the villages of Lozen, Kamen, Stefan Stambolovo, Ivancha, Obedinenie, Strahilovo, Karantsi, Varzulitsa and Alekovo.
In four of these settlements, plus Maslarevo, dangerously high values of magnesium have also been registered in the drinking water. During the first quarter of the year, five samples of mineral water were tested at the water source and water filling points in Svishtov, Ovcha Mogila and Voneshta Voda for microbiological indicators and all of them met the requirements for resorts.
No acts of administrative violations were drawn up.
