Bogdan Milchev: The man who can give a new beginning to Bulgarian roads is called Delyan Peevski - 1

The man who can give a new beginning to Bulgarian roads is called Delyan Peevski!

This was told to the Bulgarian National Radio by Bogdan Milchev from the Road Safety Institute.

"Every day we have to ask Mr. Peevski the question of when the new beginning will begin for Bulgarian roads. Because without a new beginning, but with the same people and with the same management - we will get more of the same. ... Until this person, who demonstrates to us every day that he decides when the new beginning will begin in a sector, takes action and says: "Get them out!", nothing will change in our road safety".

According to Bogdan Milchev, nothing depends on the prime minister, and also on previous prime ministers, "they are just straw men", and the road safety measures outlined by the Council of Ministers will not be adopted soon:

"We understood that the State Agency for Road Safety (SARTS) has started inspecting the roads since November 2024 using artificial intelligence. What greater recognition than the fact that due to the lack of natural intelligence, we will use artificial intelligence. The dream of the "administrator" will come true - artificial intelligence will be "guilty" for the choices we make as a society. The responsibility will be outside of us, the responsibility will be in a computer. Artificial intelligence, because there is a lack of natural, maybe", he commented and added:

"No one in Bulgaria sees any point in this agency. ... After the incident near Svoge, on my initiative, years ago, the Council of Ministers created the State Agency for Road Safety, which is subordinate to the Prime Minister of Bulgaria. The Prime Minister has the tool with which to manage safety on our roads. The responsibility for our roads lies with the Prime Minister. Six prime ministers have changed since then, but none of them changed either the composition or the structure of this agency to give us more security. Rosen Zhelyazkov was presented with evidence for the State Agency for Road Safety that in 2024 has spent 500 thousand leva on media time, that it has spent 230 thousand leva on a sociological agency to conduct a study on road safety, that it has spent 2.5 million leva on two minibuses - laboratories that are not used, but are standing in the garage and rusting. ... He has not taken a single action to change this agency, even to close it down.

According to him, there is no risk assessment that would identify dangerous sections:

"Back in 2019 "The risky areas should have been identified and prioritized, because there are no funds to repair them all, but to start from the most dangerous to the least dangerous."

Fear is killing us, Milchev believes:

"We are afraid to call things by their real names, we are afraid to protest, we are afraid to ask for more security."
