GERB leader Boyko Borisov is leaving for the EPP congress, which will be held in the Spanish city of Valencia on April 29 and 30, 2025. During these two days, the framework of the future course of the largest European party for the coming years will be outlined. The European People's Party largely shapes European legislation and outlines a clear strategy for dealing with the crises facing Europe. Especially the war in Ukraine, the rising cost of living, the growing threat of populism and extremism.
The congress will be attended by MEPs, prime ministers, European commissioners and leaders of parties from the EPP family. Manfred Weber is expected to be re-elected as the party chairman for the next three years. Dolors Montserrat is expected to be elected as the EPP secretary general. Among the candidates for the ten vice-president positions are Mariya Gabriel, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, Croatian Commissioner Dubravka Šuica, Austrian Commissioner Magnus Brunner, Flemish Christian Democrats leader Wouter Beke, Chairman of the EP Foreign Affairs Committee David McAllister, Portuguese MEP Paulo Rangel, Romanian MEP Siegfried Mureșan, Polish MEP Andrzej Halicki, Costis Hatzidakis, as well as former Irish Commissioner Mureș McGuinness.
The Bulgarian delegation, headed by the GERB leader, includes the mayors of Plovdiv and Stara Zagora — Kostadin Dimitrov and Zhivko Todorov, MEPs from GERB-SDF, MPs, municipal councilors and representatives of the GERB youth organization.
During the congress of the European People's Party, Boyko Borisov will make a speech to the delegates of the event. He will hold meetings with the party leadership, as well as with leaders of parties that are part of the EPP. Among the main topics of the event in Valencia will be defense and demography. Speeches will be made by heads of state and government from countries outside the EU.
