The Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria (PRB) will be uncompromising towards all drivers of motor vehicles (MPV) who are found to be driving after drinking alcohol and/or drugs.
This is stated in the position of Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov in connection with the measure of restraint "detention in custody" imposed today, 28.04.2025, by the District Court-Kyustendil of a driver, brought as a defendant by the Kyustendil District Prosecutor's Office for intentionally causing death while driving a vehicle while intoxicated and without a driver's license.
Borislav Sarafov recommends that prosecutors across the country request the court to impose the most severe preventive measure - "detention in custody", when driving after consuming alcohol or narcotics is established, resulting in a fatal traffic accident.
Prosecutors are encouraged to qualify driving after consuming alcohol and/or narcotics as an intentional crime in order to create a lasting judicial practice that will ensure the imposition of effective and fair penalties for offenders.
