The greenhouse cherries have ripened in the Sliven village of Samuilovo. This was told to BTA by Kosta Petrov, chairman of the "Bulgarian Peach" Association in Sliven.
The owner of the greenhouse of nearly 3 acres is already picking the fruits, and the wholesale price per kilogram of cherries is 50 leva, he pointed out.
BTA recalls that last year, farmers started picking cherries around April 26. At that time, the wholesale price was 32 leva per kilogram.
The cold weather in early April this year forced fruit growers from the region to light fires in their gardens in an attempt to protect the trees from the cold.
