Shumen folk singer Petko Zahariev, known by the nickname Shekera, has been detained for driving after drinking alcohol. The incident happened last night on "Rishki Prohod" Boulevard in Shumen, reports BNR.
According to eyewitnesses, the singer was visibly intoxicated when he tried to get into his car, parked next to a gas station.
„He couldn't put the key in the lock for a long time", a witness told Radio Shumen.
At the moment Zahariev managed to start the car and drive off, police officers intervened on the spot. During the detention, the folk singer displayed aggressive behavior, calling the law enforcement officers „jokers" and threatening to lose their jobs.
According to the witness, Petko Zahariev's alcohol test showed over 2 per mille, which significantly exceeds the permissible limits.

Petko Zahariev was a candidate for municipal councilor from the Bulgarian Socialist Party in the last local elections. After the elections, he started working in the municipal department "Culture" and became part of the team of Shumen Mayor Prof. Hristo Hristov. Radio Shumen is awaiting a response from the press center of the municipal administration whether the singer is still an employee of the municipality.
In November last year, Zahariev organized an anniversary concert at Arena Shumen under the title "20 years on stage". He previously ran a restaurant near the cooperative market, where there were numerous complaints about disturbing public order with loud music during the night hours.
