A driver is being investigated for a traffic accident with intentional causing of death, the Kyustendil prosecutor's office announced.
The 26-year-old D.N. has been brought in as a defendant in the case.
On April 26, on a municipal road in the area of the village of Gorna Grashtitsa, Kyustendil region, while driving a car, D.N. violated the traffic rules and thereby intentionally caused the death of 33-year-old K.M., the prosecution indicates.
A scene inspection was conducted in the case and witness statements were collected. The driver was tested for alcohol and narcotics, which established the presence of alcohol in his exhaled breath. A forensic medical examination has been ordered.
A check shows that D.N. is an unlicensed driver, having been convicted in 2019 for driving a vehicle after consuming alcohol.
The act committed by the accused constitutes a serious intentional crime within the meaning of the Criminal Code, for which a penalty of “imprisonment“ for a term of 10 to 20 years is provided.
The supervising prosecutor filed a request with the court for a preventive measure “detention in custody“ against D.N. The court's ruling is pending.
