His Excellency Hisashi Michigami, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Bulgaria, visited the University of Library Science and Information Technologies (UniBIT) today, 22/05/2024. He was accompanied by Kento Muraki, cultural attaché in the diplomatic mission.

Ambassador Michigami was an official guest at the UniBIT Seminar, implemented under the project “Increasing scientific and innovation capacity in the smart city by building connections (twinning)“ – ExcellCity.

He congratulated the academic staff of the higher school on the coming Day of the holy brothers Methodius and Cyril, whose icon is one of the priceless relics of UniBIT that guests see when entering the higher school.

In his address, Ambassador Michigami pointed out that our two peoples are very close, even though Bulgaria and Japan are thousands of kilometers apart. Over time, relations between the two nations have developed and deepened on the basis of common values and interests that bring us even closer. We are basically alike in two things – in respect for education and culture and in respect for history and beautiful centuries-old traditions, he also shared.

In honor of the Japanese guests, Prof. Stoyan Denchev – the chairman of the Board of Trustees of UniBIT, gave the tone for the attendees to recite “I am Bulgarian“ in the metric of Japanese haiku poetry – with concentration of feeling and expression of meditation.

ExcellCity is a project on which we work with many international partners and this process is a challenge for everyone – to share our experience and knowledge, to be a repository of history and an incubator of ideas, through which we can build the future of generations in the smart city, summed up in his welcoming speech to the guests of the forum the Rector of UniBIT, Prof. Ph.D. Irena Peteva.
