Ina Canabaro Lucas has been officially declared the oldest living person in the world after the death of Japanese woman Tomiko Itooka, dariknews.bg reported.

The nun was born on June 8, 1908 in San Francisco de Asís, Brazil.

Sister Ina now lives in a convent in Porto Alegre and is currently 116 years and 211 days old. Ituka had also reached the impressive age of 116 years, but she passed away a few days ago.

Sister Ina's life is almost entirely dedicated to God. She began her religious journey at the age of 16, entering the girls' school "Santa Teresa de Jesus" in Santana do Livramento. Her path took her to Montevideo, Uruguay, where she took her vows as a nun.

In 1930, Sister Ina returned to Brazil, where she taught Portuguese and mathematics at a school in Rio de Janeiro.

The oldest living person on earth belongs to the Congregation of the Teresa Sisters of Brazil. Her nephew, Kleber Vieira Canabaro Lucas, spoke of his aunt's longevity. He attributed her remarkable age to "good humor, optimism, kindness and spirituality".

The nun maintains her health through routine medical checkups.
