Do "Vazrazhdane" and DPS-Peevski plan to overcome their long and ardently demonstrated political differences and unite? Analysis by Georgi Lozanov.
Among the miracles caused by Trump's victory is the unification of the efforts in our country of Peevski's DPS, which presents itself as anti-Putinists, and Kostadinov's "Vazrazhdane", which is Putinist without presenting itself as such. Their common cause is the destruction of civil society, as in one day they chased it from two sides - with Kostadinov's proposal for a law on foreign agents and with Peevski's proposal for a parliamentary commission to investigate Soros. With this law, it was Putin who cracked down on civil society in Russia, and the crackdown began precisely with Soros' foundations. Because when you have completely mastered the state and business - the first and second sectors, the only hope for the protection of human rights is in the third sector - that of civil society with its inherent non-governmental organizations and independent media. It remains your last "internal enemy", but since it is still inconvenient to admit it directly, you give it some specific name for deception and mobilization - Soros in this case, and on the fronts of instilled hatred you engage in battle with it until complete victory.
The coalition will not be completely unprincipled
For now, it is eluding our heroes in parliament - they did not even support each other's proposals. Perhaps they have not yet figured out a way to overcome their long and ardently demonstrated political differences, or perhaps they simply have not found the point, since they would not have enough votes anyway. It is better to wait for the next elections, especially if each of them manages, as they know, to increase their votes and from a position of strength to force the weaker ones to follow them, which is a trend that is already taking place in world politics.
The coalition between them no longer seems so impossible, and it will not be completely unprincipled. The trampling of civil society is a central part of the ideology of "Vazrazhdane", which coincides with that of Putin. For his part, Peevski directly pledged that "when I come to power, I will brutally expel these organizations from Bulgaria. I will cleanse Bulgaria of the Soros, I give my word". And Yordan Tsonev from Peevskogo MRF explained to "Vazrazhdane" from the parliamentary rostrum, that they have been fighting the same battle long before them.
It is easier for Putin
Putin has long understood that in the modern world, in order to suspend democracy and unhinderedly place his autocracy in its place, it is not necessary to send half the intelligentsia to Siberia like Stalin - it is enough to declare civil organizations and independent media as foreign agents and shut them up. But it is easy for him - he is neither in the EU nor in NATO, but is waging a hybrid war with them. However, we will have to declare as foreign agents those who, by treaty, law, constitution, have worked with our international partners, on whose support we rely to ensure our national security, including vis-à-vis Russia. Without their solidarity, we become attractive prey for any hostile country.
Is it possible that such is the intention of the exercises on the back of the already struggling Bulgarian civil society?
