Will the Bulgarian parliament also be insulted on Wednesday after the pogrom at the House of Europe, as threatened by "Vazrazhdane"? This entirely depends on the parliamentary parties and especially on the first political force GERB. A true cordon sanitaire against fascistic excesses is possible only if the ruling party, headed by the mandate holder, stands categorically on the side of parliamentarism and the rule of law, not with blanket declarations, but with decisive actions.
From a non-aggression pact to a masochistic relationship between GERB and "Vazrazhdane"
So far, however, GERB's behavior has escalated from respectful respect for Kostadin Kostadinov and "Vazrazhdane" in parliament, resembling a non-aggression pact, to a masochistic relationship, in which the leader of the pro-Russian party calls the leader of the EPP member party "a self-forgetful, denier dictator" and urges him – "go alone, lest you end up like Saddam". Boyko Borisov, who never fails to react angrily when his dignity is violated (he must have been publicly angry 300 times about his arrest 3 years ago), has now become humiliatingly speechless.
However, it no longer matters whether the GERB - – “Vazrazhdane“ relationship is based on collusion or is a mutually beneficial strategic partnership, and the fascist excesses - previously approved with the tacit consent of the “dictator“. The time has come to put an end to this game - unfortunately not because of the heightened value tolerance to the point of breaking. The new era of geopolitical alash-verysh is also rearranging the gates of Baiganyev's politicking.
So far, Borisov's strategic partnership with Kostadinov has resembled a game between a sheriff, who is the head of a polished and calm banditry, and a supposedly self-organized bandit who gathers agitators from the outer neighborhoods to break the windows of citizens. At that time, citizens are already inclined to see in the sheriff and his systematically controlled banditry the order beyond which they can no longer even dream.
Borisov as a bet in the center between extreme opponents and supporters of the euro
This political symbiosis has quite visible dimensions, especially in excessive actions - for example, when the deputies of “Vazrazhdane“ pull out the cables in the plenary hall, prevent the closure of the “Maritsi“ coal mines and stop many millions of euros under the Recovery and Resilience Plan, but they relieve GERB of the responsibility to engage in unpopular measures and with one for the wasted money. When the "revivalists" led by party leaders and MPs set fire to the European Commission building in Sofia, burn effigies of senior European officials and injure police officers, the majority of the indifferent and even opponents of the euro are already disgusted and a little scared.
And the most outspoken Euro-defenders PP-DB are out of power and cannot have a serious influence - if they were in power, these excesses would not be possible, because then they would have the leverage to overthrow the government, if such were allowed. In this situation, Borisov remains the balancer in the center, who can choose a more moderate pro-European position, without having to stand up to extreme opponents and without depending particularly on the staunch supporters of the euro.
Kostadinov already has two embassies
But if the day before yesterday “Ataka“, and then “Vazrazhdane“ had only one embassy - the Russian one, today they may already have two - and the American one. Kostadin Kostadinov does not hide his ambitions to turn his party into a second force in our country, like “Alternative for Germany“ in Germany, which also enjoys the support of the Donald Trump administration. In this situation, Borisov finds himself under the threat of not being the desired partner of Washington. And after the expected chancellorship of the staunch pro-European Friedrich Merz, it is safer for Borisov to step decisively with at least one foot at the European core, when the prospect is that the EU will be abandoned by the US, and for Trump's "heart" he will have to compete with Kostadinov.
All this requires GERB to end its game with "Vazrazhdane". This can be done quietly, through negotiations, similar to the formal lack of commitment to DPS-New Beginning, and if it is impossible, it can be done abruptly. Whether and how exactly this will happen will become clear on Wednesday and in the coming days in parliament.
Raya Nazaryan and Boyko Borisov to commit to order in parliament
In the event of new excesses by “Vazrazhdane“ in the parliamentary hall, several simple and clear steps can be taken. GERB should engage its Deputy Chairman Raya Nazaryan to lead the sessions, because Natalia Kiselova has proven that she does not have the courage not only to impose penalties, but even to interrupt GERB deputies when they brutally violate the rules from the podium. Let all new such attempts be immediately sanctioned by the Chairman Nazaryan with removal from the session – even to all Kostadinov's deputies, if they try to occupy the rostrum or cut cables again, and the quaestors should be instructed to take them out and not allow them into the hall.
Finally, Borisov should truly manifest himself as the leader of the first political force, containing in its name both the civic principle and the European development of Bulgaria, and should condemn the fascistic excesses from the parliamentary rostrum, even to resist the excesses with his deputies. And in the event of attempts at street actions around the parliament building, similar to those around the House of Europe, the police should not stand like “cannon fodder”, but should resolutely counteract the violators of order – to prepare their helmets and hard hats, water cannons and handcuffs for the rioters.
