Stefan Spasov to FACT: The municipality will probably have to return 9 mln. leva for the renovation of the Sofia Theater

The topic of the renovation of the Sofia Theater is again on the agenda, because the project must be finalized, the building must be put into operation by July 31, 2025, and this will not happen. And the project has money under a European program. In total, it is about 9 million leva, which the municipality will most likely have to return, because the renovation of the Sofia Theater will not happen on time. Three years ago, the renovation started very abruptly, because some money had to be "saved", but it will not happen. He announced this to Lili Marinkova in the FACT studio and the show "Conversation" municipal councilor Stefan Spasov from “Save Sofia“.

“The theater building is one of the first to be built in the capital. It is in the late modernist architectural style. I believe that buildings from this period have all the signs to be declared cultural monuments. And not for the sake of saying that this is a monument, but because this is a unique architectural period and these buildings are very characteristic“, Spasov also shared.

“When the renovation began, the director Iriney Konstantinov explained how all this was necessary. But what happened... All the original flooring that was in the theater was torn out, all the wall coverings, arches, etc. were torn out. Everything was exposed. And the renovation will not be completed on time, and this will weigh on the municipality“, the guest also said.
