Among those previously arrested are Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, who was detained for bribery, and two other significant figures: Lieutenant General Yuri Kuznetsov, head of the "Human Resources" in the Ministry of Defense, and Major General Ivan Popov, former commander of the 58th Russian Army.
These arrests coincide with significant changes in the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defense. President Vladimir Putin fired Sergei Shoigu, longtime defense minister, replacing him with Andrei Belousov, a former deputy prime minister.
