In Russia, several senior military officials were arrested on corruption charges. The latest detainee is Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin, deputy chief of the General Staff, who was charged on suspicion of receiving substantial bribes, reports BTA.ne

Reports by Russian media, including the prominent Kommersant newspaper, revealed that Shamarin's arrest was linked to fraud charges, prompting authorities to search his home for evidence. This incident marks the fourth high-profile arrest in the defense sector since April.

Among those previously arrested are Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, who was detained for bribery, and two other significant figures: Lieutenant General Yuri Kuznetsov, head of the "Human Resources" in the Ministry of Defense, and Major General Ivan Popov, former commander of the 58th Russian Army.

These arrests coincide with significant changes in the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defense. President Vladimir Putin fired Sergei Shoigu, longtime defense minister, replacing him with Andrei Belousov, a former deputy prime minister.

The Russian military is going through a period of intense scrutiny and transformation, with the latest arrests underscoring the government's commitment to tackling corruption at the highest levels.
