Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is about to make an important trip to Madrid to meet with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, reported the BBC and News.bg.
The leaders are due to meet at noon local time (10 a.m.), followed by a press conference, according to a statement from the Spanish prime minister's office. King Felipe VI of Spain will welcome President Zelensky at the palace. King Felipe and Queen Letizia will host a dinner in honor of their guest, the royal family announced.
The visit marks President Zelensky's first official trip to Spain since taking office in 2019. Zelensky originally planned to visit Madrid in mid-May, but the trip was postponed due to a Russian military offensive in the Kharkiv region, as AFP reminds us .
During a recent session of the Spanish Parliament, Prime Minister Sanchez revealed that Madrid and Kiev are on the verge of signing a bilateral cooperation agreement. The pact will aim to deepen the economic, social and institutional ties between the two nations.
„As soon as the situation on the front allows, we will sign an agreement with Ukraine to strengthen cooperation between our countries”, said the Prime Minister.
The visit not only symbolizes the strengthening of relations between Ukraine and Spain, but also highlights the international support that Ukraine continues to receive amid ongoing challenges.
