French President Emmanuel Macron leaves today on the second day of his three-day official state visit to Germany, in the eastern German state of Saxony, reports DPA and BTA.

Macron embarked on a landmark three-day trip to Germany, marking his presence with a moving tribute at Berlin's Holocaust memorial, which sits near the iconic Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag building. Together with his wife Brigitte Macron paid tribute to the Jews who died during the Holocaust.

The couple's itinerary includes a visit to the "Moritzburg" palace, accompanied by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Elke Budenbender.

However, the heart of Macron's visit is in Dresden, the capital of Saxony, where he is due to deliver a speech on European Union policy at the foot of the magnificent Frauenkirche cathedral. It is expected to attract large audiences from Saxony, Poland, the Czech Republic and France.

In Dresden, Macron's agenda also includes a visit to the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems. There he will engage in discussions on artificial intelligence and microchip manufacturing in Europe, highlighting the importance of technological progress in the region.

Macron will also travel to the University of Münster in West Germany. The visit is particularly special as he will receive the Westphalian International Peace Prize, highlighting his contribution to peace and cooperation in Europe.

The visit concludes with Macron participating in Franco-German government consultations at Meseberg Palace, cementing the strong ties between the two nations.

This is the first visit of a French president to Germany in 24 years.
