China's Foreign Ministry has urged the US to end their support for the “Taiwan independence” movements. They made this statement against the background of ongoing dialogues between the two world powers aimed at smoothing out maritime disagreements and managing potential risks, reports News.bg.
On May 24, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi shared that the two countries had a productive exchange on the current state of maritime affairs. They agreed to keep lines of communication open to prevent any misunderstandings or miscalculations that could escalate tensions.
China is expressing its concerns about what it sees as American provocations in nearby waters and is sending a clear message - Washington should avoid interfering in disputes between China and its neighbors, especially when it comes to maritime dominance.
China stepped up military pressure on Taiwan in April and May, with fighter jets staging mock attacks on foreign vessels while ships and aircraft swooped close to the island. At the beginning of May, Taiwan's Ministry of Defense intercepted 15 Chinese military aircraft in the vicinity of the island, including Su-30 fighters, News.bg recalls.
The discussions between China and the US on maritime issues and the status of Taiwan are more than a diplomatic exchange, they are a balancer on the global stage where any move can tip the scales of peace and stability.
