Slovak Deputy Prime Minister Robert Kaliniak shared that Prime Minister Robert Fico's road to recovery after an assassination attempt will be long and challenging. A statement was made to France Press. Despite the gloomy prospects, the hospital that cares for Prime Minister Fitso announced that his condition is “satisfactory”, BTA reports.
On May 15, Fico was shot after a government meeting in Handlova, a city in central Slovakia. Since then, the prime minister underwent two serious operations in a hospital in Banska Bistrica, where he continues to recover.
„The Prime Minister's recovery is on track, but we are preparing for a long journey due to the severity of his injuries,” noted Robert Kaliniak after a cabinet meeting.
He added that Fizo is now able to consume food, marking a significant step in his recovery.
Eric Kaliniak, who heads the prime minister's advisory team and was present during the attack, recounted the harrowing experience, saying Fizo narrowly escaped death.
The hospital in Banska Bistrica, where Fitzi is admitted, assured that his treatment is proceeding as expected and his condition is currently satisfactory.
The attack on Prime Minister Fico was carried out by a 71-year-old man identified by Slovak media as Juraj Sintula. Thanks to the quick reaction of Fizo's bodyguards, the attacker was detained immediately after the attack.
