Russia assumed the presidency of the UN Security Council for a month, TASS informed. For the last time, Russia coordinated the work of the key structure of the world organization in April 2023

During the month, the UN Security Council will hold about two dozen open meetings and closed consultations.

The first Russian-led Security Council meeting will take place on Monday, July 1. It will approve the work program of the Security Council for the next month.

The main events of the Russian presidency are expected to take place in the middle of the month and will be devoted to the construction of a more just, democratic and sustainable world order, the Middle East settlement, as well as the cooperation of the United Nations with the CSTO, the CIS and the Shanghai Organization for cooperation.

The representative of the Russian Federation at the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, noted that the topic of Ukraine's attack on the civilian infrastructure of Sevastopol with ATACMS tactical missiles equipped with cluster warheads will be raised at the next meeting of the United Nations Security Council.

The UN Security Council consists of 15 members, including five permanent members - Great Britain, China, Russia, the United States and France. Each of the five has veto power. The ten temporary members of the UN Security Council are Algeria, Guyana, Malta, Mozambique, Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Sierra Leone, Switzerland, Ecuador and Japan.

According to the Charter of the world organization, the Security Council is responsible for the maintenance of international peace and security, and all UN member states are obliged to obey its decisions.
